Early horror films are mainly based on classic literature of the gothic or the horror genre, for example, Dracula, Frankenstein and The Phantom of the Opera.
However more recent horror films are not based on classic literature but often draw inspiration from the insecurities of life after World War 2. Examples of this include, Invasion of the Body Snatchers and The Exorcist
